Forgive to Live Part 2: The Miracle of Obedience
Updated: May 21
Recently, God has been working on my heart in the area of forgiveness. I am not the most obedient person and still have many flaws and things I am working on. But I try to live my life honestly and authentically before others. One of the many people I have had a lot of unforgiveness toward has still been acting like they don’t know how to act. But after writing a letter to them (which I didn’t mail; I just used to get my feelings out), God told me to take physical steps to forgive them, and SHOW it. So reluctantly and even with anger, I began to do it. It still is not the easiest thing to do, God has been showing up in the CRAZIEST ways since, EVERY TIME! Not that he has to, but He does anyway.
In the story in John 2:1-11, Jesus’s mother said to His servants, “Whatever He tells you to do, do it.” After this statement, Jesus turned water into wine. The miracle didn’t just happen just because; it started with OBEDIENCE.
I see a lot of people talking about using this time of quarantine to build businesses or rest. But I have yet to see anyone talk about using this time to forgive those who have offended you. That is the best rest and work you can give yourself! I say this not as someone who has forgiven perfectly, but who spent years trying to prove I was right and show people how wrong they were and what they had done. That led me to a long road of loneliness. My personal (i.e. not professional) opinion: I believe a lot of physical and mental ailments come from unforgiveness. Take it from me. It is not worth it.
